Teriyaki Sauce Chicken Skewers

What kind of chicken grows on a tree? Poultry.

There are a billion ways to prepare chicken however, not all would please your palate. Allow me to guarantee you that this teriyaki sauce chicken is so tasty that you want to have it everyday - you shouldn't though. The usual process is frying your marinaded chicken and serving with a side of teriyaki sauce. The avant-garde method which is usually practiced on this blog would be marinading with the teriyaki sauce and condiments, then frying. I hope that didn't confuse you and if it did, not to worry the visuals would do a better job of description. It doesn't just stop at frying the marinaded chicken, you would also need to prepare a very tasty tomato sauce used for glazing and also act as a dip. I suppose you are ready to kick this off......Let us begin!

Direction: Fried Marinaded Chicken

The two main points to consider when making perfect fried chicken are the temperature of the oil and the actual steps of frying.

The temperature of the oil should be about 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • A traditional tip to find out if the oil is ready is to toss an already cut onion inside and once the oil sizzles then it is ready!
  • Place a clean frying pan on a medium heat stove and add vegetable or olive oil enough to cover the marinaded chicken when placed into it.
    • Once the oil starts to drizzle, gently place the chicken into the hot oil and slightly reduce the heat to enable slow frying. Start with the edge close to you and place the chicken in the oil, working away from yourself to avoid spatters.
  • Fry in batches: overcrowding the pan will lower the temperature of the oil causing oil to be absorbed resulting in soggy and greasy chicken.
    • When the chicken turn deep golden brown, remove them to a cooling rack or a sieve to drain excess oil. Insert an instant-read thermometer into the chicken to make sure it is well cooked. The USDA recommends cooking chicken to a minimum of 165 degrees F.

    Directions: Tomato Sauce:
    • Set a medium sized pot on a low heat and add vegetable/olive oil.
    • After 5 - 7 mins, gently add your finely chopped onion, sliced habanero and sweet peppers and tomato paste simultaneously, increase the heat and stir. Fry for 10mins.
    • Add the condiments (thyme, oregano, stock cube, and salt). Be careful with salt especially if you salted the chicken.
    • Watch closely while the pot is covered to cook for 2 mins.
    • Add paprika to redden the filling and add flavor.
    • Stir and taste for seasoning.
    • Add the fried chicken an stir.
    • Cook on low heat for about 5 mins allowing the chicken to deeply absorb the sauce.
    • Allow to cool.

    Serving:
    • Place the chicken on a clean serving bowl.
    • Insert 3- 4 chicken on a skewer using pepper, cabbage and onion as a separator
    • Using a clean spoon, scoop some of the filling into a bowl to serve as a dip.
    • Serve with any cold drink of your choice....mine was H2O :)
    • Bon Appetit!
